Terms of Service Agreement

Please read our terms and conditions below before ordering research so you are fully informed of the scope of our service.
Terms and Conditions of Use
1.1 You are requested to provide a detailed research request to Legacy Tree Genealogy which includes all known information concerning the family or individual to be researched as well as any previous research that has been conducted. We are not responsible for duplication or misdirection of effort due to a lack on your part to provide us with all necessary information.
1.2 Legacy Tree Genealogy clients are buying our genealogists' professional time and are not guaranteed results. Genealogical problems vary widely and some take much more time to solve than others and may even be unsolvable at the present time. Legacy Tree Genealogy is not responsible for the positive or negative results of the research project. We strive for excellence and accuracy in research and can simply guarantee that we will do our best work for each and every client.
1.3 Research requires a deposit of half the research charges due. Upon completion of research, the remaining research charge plus any additional charges (such as copies, shipping, and record certificates) will be due. These additional charges rarely exceed $35 and permission will be sought from the client before these additional charges exceed $60. Research results will not be sent to the client until payment is received in full, without exceptions.
1.4 Research projects are handled in the order the deposit and research goals and information are received from the client. We strive to return completed projects to our clients within 2-3 months and often succeed in finishing even sooner. However, since records often have to be ordered from repositories outside of Salt Lake City and we cannot control how soon these records are received, a project may take longer to complete than anticipated. Rush ordering is available but completion time still cannot be guaranteed due to waiting time in ordering outside records.
1.5 Once research has begun we cannot refund deposits. If you have extenuating circumstances, the completion of the project can be delayed so that the remaining payment can be paid when you are able. If you request a refund before research has begun you will be charged a $50 credit card processing fee.
1.6 Legacy Tree Genealogy has the right at any time and at its sole discretion to modify the terms of this agreement. Modifications will be posted online or communicated with the client via email or post if necessary. Use of our services means that you have accepted and are bound by this agreement's terms. If you are dissatisfied with any portion of our services your sole and exclusive remedy is to discontinue using our services. We likewise reserve the right to refuse service to any potential client at our sole discretion.
This agreement is governed by the law of the State of Utah and the Federal law of the United States of America.
